Current Limitations
Automations is new, and while the core functionality described in this section works, a couple of things are still rough around the edges:
- Notifications for things waiting on you are still basic. You'll get an email (or a message in chat, if email isn't set up) when an automation finishes, fails, or needs escalation — but a step waiting specifically on your approval doesn't always notify you the same way yet. It's worth checking the Running tab on the Automations page periodically rather than relying entirely on being pinged.
- The template gallery is still growing. If nothing in the Library tab fits your exact need, you can describe a custom automation or build one from a blank canvas, but the guided "pick a job" experience is still being expanded.
- A step handled by an agent connected to ChatGPT has a narrower safety net. Approval gates on a step itself are always enforced by the platform, regardless of which model runs it. But if that step hands the work to an agent using a connected ChatGPT account, that agent's usual per-action approval prompts don't apply while it's working — you'll see an "Approvals off" notice on that agent's page as a heads-up.
Since this area is under active development, small details of how things look and behave may shift between updates. If something in this section doesn't match what you see, it likely means an improvement has landed since these docs were last updated.
